FO Friday - Socks

Finished the socks with plenty of time to spare for the Friday FO post :-)

I also decided I'd better start getting ready for the Ravelym... I mean Ravellenic Games and wind my yarn into a ball. Good thing too, as it took me an hour to go from this:

to this:

The yarn is SO soft and lovely to work with :)

Now I'm all ready and eager to start :) I'm a bit worried about my gauge though. If I'm doing this right, the stitch count is spot on, but the row count is off by a factor 2!!! How is that even possible? I think I'm going to assume that I'm not doing it right and am in fact counting two rows every time I should count only one, because in that case the row count would be spot on as well ;) But I'm kerflummuxed...

  1. Lovely socks! That yarm looks yummy, gorgeous colours - what is it going to be?

Knitty has a good article on gauge which I come back to quite often:

    1. I did, thanks! The ravelry page said "21 rows in garter stitch" - I've always counted gauge in garter stitch ridges, so I got confused. Thankfully when I looked at the pattern itself, it said "21 garter stitch ridges", so I was right on the money :)

    1. Thank you :) It was the candy skein for June. I fell deeply in love with it the minute I saw it and knew I had to have it. Fortunately it's a delight to work with as well.

  10. I don't worry too much about row gauge - stitch gauge is waaay more important in almost every case. In fact, I don't usually check my row gauge for socks :)

    Love the stripey socks!

  11. LOVE those socks -- I'm such a sucker for stripes, and those colors are awesome. Happy Ravellenic-ing! The opening ceremony is just underway and I'm stuck at work for a few more hours. Go Multnomah! And Tami's yarn is awesome. You're going to love working with it!

  13. It's really hard to match row gauge, which is why I love patterns that tell you to do x, y, z for 3 inches more than ones that say for 3 rows :). The socks are great. Good luck in the Games.

    1. Usually I don't worry about it either, but this pattern actually said "knit for this many rows", so I wanted to be sure.

Fortunately it turned out to just be a rookie mistake :)
