First, for my oldest sister, Boticelli
I found a pretty significant error in the pattern though - the row count suddenly jumped 100 rows for no apparent reason! I checked with the designer and yup - typo :) The only reason I even noticed is that I'm using yarn with a different gauge than the one given in the pattern, and rather than moving down to teeny-tiny needles to obtain correct gauge (which I doubt would look good anyway), I'm attempting to change the pattern to fit my yarn. It's the first time I've ever tried anything of the sort, so I'm very curious to see how it'll work out - and taking copious notes while knitting the back, so I can replicate it for the front. Maths FTW ;) I wish I could have figured out how to work it in the round though, but that's slightly above my abilities yet.
Second up is a sweater for a dear friend of mine. We first started talking about me knitting her a sweater last year, but things got sidetracked by our move. I recently brought it up again, and we spent a couple of delightful afternoons looking through Ravelry for the perfect pattern. I think we found it too with Drops' Chocolate Passion. We found her some GORGEOUS deep red yarn (the colour here is way off - it doesn't look orange at all in real life!) and I finally got to cast on :)
That is so great of you to knit for others, AND to change patterns up. Can't wait to see how you go.
ReplyDeleteI love knitting for both my sister and my friend - they're always so appreciative ;)
Deleteooh both pretty knits, and well done on starting cables - they are really fun and they create something just a little bit different. If you're having trouble with a chart, try writing it out yourself, it might be easier. Have a knitty Wednesday xx
ReplyDeleteI am a big Drops fan, and knit their patterns almost exclusively (then again they are available for purchase here in english - a rarity! - I love their printed seasonal patterns - maybe this would help you regards the printing, they include all of the patterns on the site for the latest collections, just in coloured, printed format, and not too pricey either) but I can totally understand what you are talking about regarding the reading the entire pattern before hand. I guess because I have always used their patterns it has kind of become second nature to do that any way for me!
ReplyDeleteI love the pattern you have chosen, wish you good luck, and look forward to watching it progress :)

I'm working on a Drops sweater right now too. I agree, the "do this and also hopefully you read ahead and did this too" pattern writing style is aggravating.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful starts to both sweaters though!
Glad I'm not alone in being frustrated by that.
DeleteThanks! :)
Looks like you have two great projects to work on :)
ReplyDeleteAlthough I love many of Drops designs, I don't like the way the write up the patterns... So I can totally understand that you must read the pattern before you knit.
Love the shade of blue you've chosen.

Good luck with the cables! Once I get started with them I quite enjoy then and the finish looks good!
ReplyDeleteWow! Big projects and lots of love and labor involved. What a dear you are! I love the patterns and the yarns....I have yet to attempt a sweater....it might never happen.
ReplyDeleteSweaters are a lot easier and quicker than I originally thought... well, they can be anyway (depends on the pattern of course). Patterns like "Elfe" or "$5 in Paris" knit up quicker than a lot of the shawls I've been doing.
